Disclaimer 2 : This story happens simultaneously as Anniversary part 1. " Anniversary - Part 2 " Harry Kim was sitting at the bar, sloshing his brandy around in his glass, wallowing in his bad mood. He looked across the room to Tom and B' Elanna , who were enjoying a candlelit dinner. It had been a while since they'd activated this holoprogram ; at least a year. The crew had been visiting Fair Haven for so long, they'd nearly forgotten about Chez Sandrines. He smirked ruefully into his glass. He wondered how long it would be before he could hold onto someone the way Tom and B' Elanna held on to one another. Harry did a mental count of all the women he'd loved and lost. Lindsey Ballard being the latest. With nearly every woman, Libby, Tal, and Lindsey ; his feelings were reciprocated. But with others, he played the fool. Especially with one particular woman. " Love stinks, " he mumbled cynically into his brandy. " What is the matter , Mon Ami, " Sandrine asked Harry, leaning over the bar, practically in his face, her accent strong like a bad foreign film, " has your cheri amour left you all alone ? " " You could say that. " " But you're such a handsome beau. How could any woman resist ? " He chuckled into his brandy, " Trust me, they resist. I'm a real winner with amour. " " There are things I can teach you, " she leaned closer, seductively. Harry leaned back, " I'll take your word for it. " He really hoped she wouldn't throw herself at him tonight. " Oh , how you tease missuer, " she exclaimed, giggling slightly, " tell me your problems. I can help you. It is amour , oui ? " " Oui. Like I said, I've never been lucky with amour. I can count on one hand how many women have loved me, but I'd need an extra set for the women who didn' t. " " Oh Harry, you are so young. There is no need to worry. " " See that woman over there, " he asked, gesturing to B' Elanna Torres, " She was the first. I never said anything to her because I knew it was a lost cause. Then there was this holo-" he stopped, thinking better of finishing the sentence. The woman in front of him was a hologram, " Then, " he said continuing, " there was a Delany twin, but no one more frustrating than Seven Of Nine. " " That is her name ? " " Long story. " " She is the one that got away, " she asked, prompting him to continue. " She never got away because I never had her to begin with. If there's anything consistent about my feelings for Seven Of Nine ; it's that they never go away. There always there. Even after my last , " he paused, searching for the right word, " relationship. After I'd gotten over her, there was Seven. I don't know. Maybe it's because I want what I can't have. " " It is possible. But possibly she is your one true love. Maybe it is fate pulling you to her ; Oui ? " It was a sobering thought, but Harry wasn't so sure. He didn't know if what he was feeling was love. These romantic notions for Seven were just there, he just didn't know how to put a label on them. Harry felt more than friendship for her, but not love. At least, he didn't think so. It was more frustrating not knowing than not having them reciprocated. " My one true love, " he asked sarcastically, " she rejects me left and right ! One year ago today, " he took in a deep breath and exhaled sharply, " she turned me down. She was looking to have her first date and I subtly suggested myself. And BANG ! No sooner had I gotten the words out of my mouth - " he didn't finish, shrugging. " And she rebuffed you, " she asked, prompting him again. " Yea, and with no explanation. Just turned me down flat, " he chuckled. ......' " I didn't know you had any interests. " " Neither did I, " she had said, " but apparently they include astronomy, astrophysics, and music. " " I play the clarinet you know. " " You are NOT one of the candidates. " ' ..... A year later, Harry still felt the sting of that comment. ' You are NOT one of the candidates.' And why hadn't he been ? Didn't he share those same interests ? ' Sure I do, ' he thought, ' yet I wasn't on that crew roster. ' " You are becoming companions with misery, missuer. It is not like you. " He sighed, " I know. I've just had a bad day. What does it matter ? I mean, it's been a year. It's over and done with. My feelings for her are something that don't seem to go away, so I'll live with it. Hell, I've been living with it for three years now . No big deal. Maybe it's something I'll carry with me for the rest of my life , I don't know. " " A very dark thought. " Harry chuckled again. ' I'm having a philosophical discussion with a hologram. What am I doing ? ' He set his brandy glass down on the bar, the glass clinking on the wood. He'd been in a dark mood earlier, but now the clouds seemed to be lifting. " I think I'm done moping . But thanks for listening to me, though. It helped to get it all off my chest. " Sandrine nearly acknowledged his thanks, but an idea bubbled forth instead, " You should go to her ! " " I should what ? " " Try again. Be bold young Harry. One cannot be a great gardener unless he plants seeds. " Harry smiled slightly, " I'll be seeing you, Sandrine. " " Goodbye , missuer, " she answered coyly. Harry left the holodeck feeling better. It had helped to talk it all out. Even if he had shared his feelings with a hologram. It was still someone willing to listen. As he headed down the corridor, he mused over Sandrine's last statement about gardening and planting seeds. He turned it over in his mind briefly, considering going to see Seven. Maybe he could offer to help her in her duties for a little while. it would give him a chance to speak with her. Perhaps he could ' plant a few seeds. ' " Computer, " he asked aloud. It didn't hurt to see if she was still on duty, " Locate Seven Of Nine. " << Seven Of Nine is in the Astrometrics lab.>> " Is she alone ? " << No. Lieutenant Chapman is also in the Astrometrics lab.>> Harry slowed his approach. He almost asked the computer to clarify. What was Chapman doing down there ? He and Seven hadn't been seen together for a year. Not at all. They'd been avoiding one another. Yet he was there. Insecurity, Harry's old friend, crept into his body, and he stopped in his tracks. " On second thought, " he said softly, " I think I'll go join the poker game in the messhall. " With that, he turned and changed direction. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Sandrine was wiping down the bar when the beautiful young woman entered. She was tall and blond, with cool blue eyes and full red lips. Her hair was swept up, pinned neatly in the back. The woman looked unsure in the doorway. She seemed to be contemplating whether or not to enter. Sandrine immediately knew who the young woman was. As she approached the bar, Sandrine continued to wipe down the counter. She pretended to ignore the young woman at first. It was better not to look too eager with new customers. The woman sat at the bar, but still seemed unsure. Sandrine made her way over, still working. The woman paid no notice. " He is not here, Cheri." The woman's eyes snapped over to Sandrine. She was confused, " Explain. " " Your beau, Cheri. He is not here. He just left. " " I was not expecting anyone. Perhaps you have mistaken me for someone else. " " Oh no, Cheri, " she said seriously, " I have not mistaken. And your beau has gone. Sometimes the best things are right on front of you, yet you do not see them ; Oui ? You must learn to look for them. " " There is nothing in front of me. " " Which is why he is gone, Cheri. Learn to look, " she smiled, pausing, " There is nothing worse than missed opportunity. You must think of why you turned your beau away, " she left Seven then, tending to other customers. Seven was unsure what this holodeck character was talking about. Clearly, she was mistaken. She had turned no one away just now. Seven stood. Coming had been a foolish endeavor. ' Nostalgia is an irrelevant emotion, ' she told herself. It served no purpose. She had missed no opportunity. As she moved toward the door she mulled over what the holographic woman had said to her. Though she wanted to forget the words, something was keeping them fresh in her mind. Who had she rejected ? Harry Kim was the first name that came to mind, but he seemed to be over her. ' He does not seem interested in me anymore, ' she believed. Would she turn him down now if he were to ask her out ? Seven mused over this and concluded that she most likely wouldn't. However, as she had thought earlier, Harry had moved on. Perhaps he had gotten over his crush. As the holodeck doors closed behind her, she considered somewhere in the back of her mind, in her subconscious, to look for missed opportunity, and to look at what was in front of her. Taking in a deep breath and exhaling, she looked at the holodeck doors to Chez Sandrines one more time, then went about her way. Perhaps she could find a more efficient use of her time. The End.....To Be Continued........
